What a busy last week it has been!

It all started with our school trip to Leeds on Monday. Despite the dreary weather at the start of the day we didn’t let it dampen our spirits and had an enjoyable time exploring Leeds City Centre. We spotted lots of Cuthbert Broderick buildings on our route and used our child friendly maps to help us get to each destination. On our travels we saw the Museum, Town Hall, Art Gallery, Briggate , River Aire, Leeds Bridge and Corn Exchange. What an exhausting day it was! Thank you so much to all of our volunteers for helping on the day!

We then spent the rest of the week designing, building and evaluating our own Leeds bridge. We started with a challenge to build a bridge using paper straws, glue sticks and lollipop sticks. We soon realised it wasn’t sturdy enough so reflected and decided stronger materials and reinforcement methods were needed.

We then discussed how we could manage risks when using the saw and glue gun as well as a practice go at reinforcing edges and corners making a photo frame in our groups. We made sure we worked as Team Ant so that everyone in the group could have a turn.

In our groups we came up with our final design and built our bridges using communication and collaboration skills. I was so impressed with how well the groups worked as a team and managed risks so that they could stay safe. Well done Year 2!

It was then time to test the bridges to see if a car will travel over them. This was also a good opportunity for us to reflect for our evaluations where we stated what went well and what could be improved like our learning character Beautiful Butterfly.

We had so much fun with our DT project and hope you like the final outcomes below!

Hope you all have a lovely half term break.

Miss Lucas
